U.S. Army, Navy and Space Force test Hammer of the Gods at sea to counter GPS disruption in contested operations

The U.S. Army, Navy and Space Force have tested the maritime version of Hammer of the Gods at sea for the first time during Project Convergence Capstone 6. The July 2026 experiment focused on countering Positioning, Navigation and Timing disruption while supporting electronic warfare and joint command and control.

Hammer of the Gods is a deployable emitter built to provide command-and-control and operational capabilities with a low electromagnetic signature. The system is designed to deliver multi-domain effects at the forward edge of operations.

Land-based versions have been used in exercises and demonstrations during the past two years. The maritime variant made its debut during PC-C6 on the U.S. West Coast.

The test gave military planners a new setting to assess the system beyond previous land-based demonstrations. The Army said the work will inform future Next Generation Command and Control and electronic warfare capabilities.

“Joint experimentation is how we prepare for future fights,” said Lt. Col. Darrin Hall, Chief, Modeling, Simulation and Integration (S7/8), U.S. Space Forces Pacific. “By integrating space, cyber and conventional forces into realistic scenarios, we strengthen our ability to operate as one joint team in contested environments.”

The original plan called for both land- and maritime-based versions of Hammer of the Gods to be demonstrated. The experiment also supported learning objectives from U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command and U.S. Space Forces Pacific.

U.S. Space Forces Pacific and Naval Base San Diego supported the maritime test. Their involvement allowed the system to be integrated into PC-C6 and tested across multiple operational domains.

“This experiment proved that counter-PNT capabilities can be deployed, controlled and recovered in real-world maritime operations while extending operational reach through resilient mesh networking,” Hall said. “It demonstrates the value of joint collaboration in advancing operational readiness.”

Positioning, Navigation and Timing was a central focus of the trial. PNT supports military navigation, communications, precision-guided weapons and uncrewed systems.

Disruption to GPS signals or other PNT services can affect navigation, communications and mission effectiveness. Recent conflicts have increased military attention on operating when those services are degraded or unavailable.

“Positioning, Navigation and Timing is the foundation of modern military operations. Understanding how to protect and operate through PNT disruption ensures our forces can continue to shoot, move and communicate effectively,” Hall said. “Counter-PNT effects enhances lethality by impacting the backbone for pinpoint targeting via long range artillery, guided missiles, and cruise munitions. Without PNT data, modern weapon precision drops sharply, resulting in delayed missions, missed objectives, or severe collateral damage.”

Project Convergence gives the services a venue to test those challenges under realistic operational conditions. The Army said Hammer of the Gods can help commanders study electromagnetic effects, resilience to PNT disruption and future operations in contested environments.
