Ukraine and Japan explore cooperation in defence industry

Ukraine and Japan are discussing potential collaborations in strategic industries, with a focus on defence and industrial development. The talks took place during a meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries, Herman Smetanin, and Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome.

 

The meeting, held at a Ukrainian company specialising in unmanned aerial vehicles, highlighted areas for possible joint industrial projects. Minister Smetanin presented the achievements of Ukraine’s defence sector and outlined the nation’s pressing needs to bolster its defence capabilities.

Expressing gratitude for Japan’s support since the onset of the full-scale invasion, Smetanin emphasised the potential for closer ties. He noted Ukraine’s interest in developing partnerships with Japanese companies, stating that such collaborations could result in mutually beneficial and long-term agreements.

 

 

Ambassador Nakagome underscored Japan’s commitment to exploring how its advanced technologies could aid Ukraine’s industrial growth. Both sides expressed optimism about identifying shared interests and effective pathways for future cooperation.
