Ukraine launches “Iron Range” service to accelerate military equipment testing

By Defence Industry Europe

The Ukrainian government has introduced the "Iron Range" project, a new service aimed at expediting the testing and development of weapons and military equipment. Launched by the Ministry of Strategic Industries in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of Ukraine, this initiative provides domestic manufacturers with free access to testing facilities and expert evaluations at the design stage of their products.

The “Iron Range” service offers a comprehensive suite of resources, including access to specialized test sites equipped with the necessary tools for evaluating various types of military hardware. Manufacturers will benefit from a range of services such as test methodologies, professional expertise, support during trials, and direct feedback from military experts.

Deputy Minister of Strategic Industries Anna Gvozdiar emphasized the project’s role in enhancing the effectiveness and speed of military production. “We provide a testing ground open to manufacturers so that they can work not on something that can be useful only potentially, but on what the army really needs, and get quick feedback at the design stage,” she said. Gvozdiar highlighted that this initiative will help manufacturers save time and ensure that essential equipment reaches the front lines more swiftly.

Deputy Minister of Defence Ivan Havryliuk echoed these sentiments, noting that the project represents a critical advancement in Ukraine’s defense industry. “This is not just an opportunity for testing – it is a strategic approach to providing the Defence Forces with the weapons they need now and today, and not potentially in the future,” he stated. Havryliuk underscored the importance of reducing the time required to test and bring military products up to combat standards.
