As part of a trilateral agreement, a private developer has provided a licensing permit for the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at a facility managed by the Ministry of Defence. The newly established production capacity enables the manufacturing of codified FPV drones for the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
Once the production process is refined and expanded, the state-run enterprise will be able to independently participate in tenders held by the Defence Procurement Agency and other potential buyers. The Ministry of Defence aims to enhance efficiency and competitiveness in UAV production through this integration into the manufacturing process.
Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk, First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, highlighted the positive outcomes of the project. He stated that integrating state-run enterprises into production chains has provided a clearer understanding of costs and competitive advantages, helping to improve product quality by fostering competition.
The Defence Innovation Directorate has developed a roadmap to facilitate similar manufacturing collaborations with other developers of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Expanding these efforts is expected to significantly increase production capacity and contribute to defence capabilities.
Yurii Taraniuk, Head of the Defence Innovation Directorate, noted that there is readiness to enhance cooperation with private companies. A set of standardised documents and a step-by-step guide has been prepared to support the establishment of additional UAS production lines at other state-run enterprises.
