Czech Republic interested in Leopard 2A7 main battle tanks

By Defence Industry Europe

The Army of the Czech Republic started tests of the Leopard 2A4 main battle tank received from Germany. During the recent series of tests, Czech tankers conducted the first firing from their new tank. “The Leopard 2A4s will prepare us for the most modern Leopard in the 2A7 version”, said the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic on social media.

In December 2022, the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic received the first of 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks from Germany. According to the Czech defence ministry, the remaining 14 tanks will be delivered by the end of 2023.

Tanks are supplied by the German company Rheinmetall as part of the German government’s “Ringtauch” equipment exchange programme.

The Czech Army recently conducted successful tests of the Leopard 2A4 tank. Tests included, among others, the use of tank weapon systems.

The Czech armed forces published short footage of the tests on social media.

“The Leopard 2A4s will prepare us for the most modern Leopard in the 2A7 version”, said the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic in another post on social media.

This statement may suggest that the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic plans to acquire the Leopard 2A7 tanks in the future.

The Leopard 2A7 is one of the best main battle tanks in the world. As Defence Industry Europe reported, recently the government of Norway announced its decision to acquire 54 Leopard 2A7 tanks from German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). The contract will include an option to purchase additional 18 tanks.
