Aselsan signs agreement to deliver advanced air defence radars

By Defence Industry Europe

Aselsan, a prominent Turkish defence company, has signed an agreement with the Presidency of Defence Industries of Turkey to supply air defence radar systems. The total value of the agreements is USD 170.9 million, with deliveries planned between 2026 and 2031.

The company has not disclosed specific details about the radar systems involved. However, the ALP-300G Portable Early Warning Radar System, previously known as the ERALP Early Warning Radar System, is considered a potential candidate. Development of the ALP-300G was announced in 2022, and the system was first delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces in May 2023.

The ALP-300G is a modern S-band radar designed to detect and track various targets, including air-breathing aircraft, ballistic missiles, anti-radiation missiles, and stealth platforms. According to ASELSAN, the radar features Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology and digital beamforming, enabling it to perform multi-function and multi-mission tasks simultaneously.

The system is mobile, consisting of radar, command and control, and power units mounted on tactical vehicles. It includes identification friend-or-foe (IFF) capabilities and is compatible with radar networks, as well as national and NATO air command and missile defence systems.

While addressing the delivery of the radar earlier this year, Haluk Görgün, Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries, noted its advanced capabilities. “The ALP-300G we delivered today surpasses all of these in terms of resolution, range, and accuracy,” he stated.
