The acquisition aligns with Indra’s strategy to expand its presence in the space sector, particularly in communications, surveillance, and satellite technology. The company aims to strengthen its position as a Tier-1 European space industry player, consolidating both civil and military space capabilities under a new entity, Indra Space.
Indra has been increasing its space sector investments, including the 2024 acquisition of Deimos, and is involved in European programmes such as IRIS², Galileo, EGNOS, and Copernicus. The addition of Hispasat and Hisdesat is expected to enhance Indra’s capabilities in secure satellite communications, space surveillance, and Earth observation.
In Spain, Indra continues to support key national space projects, including SpainSat NG and PAZ, and is working on emerging strategic initiatives such as Signal Intelligence and SEOT for optical Earth observation. The integration of Hispasat is expected to bring operational efficiencies through standardisation of satellite components, avionics, and communications technologies.
The financial impact of the acquisition includes projected EBITDA synergies of €20-30 million by 2026, increasing to €50-70 million by 2030. Hispasat and Hisdesat are expected to contribute €400 million in revenue by 2026, with an EBITDA of €190 million and EBIT of €50 million.
The completion of the transaction is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals and the approval of Indra Group’s General Shareholders’ Meeting. The agreement is part of Indra’s long-term objective to expand its role in European space security, satellite communications, and defence applications.
