Astra Systems conducts successful U.S. military demo of Arbiter-1A FPV drone in Hawaii

By Defence Industry Europe

Astra Systems has successfully completed its first U.S. military demonstration of the Arbiter-1A FPV drone at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, in cooperation with the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. The event marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to expand into the U.S. defence and intelligence sector.

The live demonstration showcased the Arbiter-1A’s agility, attack, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities during a series of operational flights. Representatives from the IBCT, UAS and IEW/CEMA Platoon, and the Division’s Lightning Lab MDE were present during the trials.

Constructed with a lightweight carbon fibre frame, the Arbiter-1A is designed for performance in contested environments. It reaches speeds of up to 100 km/h, has a flight endurance of 20 minutes, and supports EO/IR payloads for real-time situational awareness and precision targeting both day and night.

Weighing under 10 kilograms at takeoff, the system is capable of carrying a combat-ready payload of up to 1.5 kilograms. This makes it suitable for rapid deployment in dynamic battlefield conditions.

“The success of this demo demonstrates not just the Arbiter’s advanced capabilities in field conditions, but also Astra’s growing role as a trusted partner to U.S. defence forces,” said Todd Van Dahlen, CEO of Astra Systems.

Astra Systems is a joint venture between Adelanto Group Inc., a Native Hawaiian Tribal-owned 8(a) certified entity, and Trident Aerospace, a defence technology company with over 20 years of experience in UAS development and international operations. The firm is focused on delivering mission-ready ISR systems, loitering munitions, and autonomous platforms to support U.S. military operations worldwide.
