On 26 September, the U.S. Department of War announced the signing of a $125.5 million contract to modernise another batch of Boeing CH-47F Chinook Block I heavy transport helicopters to the Block II standard. The work, covering the fourth production series of Block II, is scheduled for completion by October 2030 and involves an undisclosed number of helicopters.

Boeing has so far delivered at least four serial CH-47F Block II helicopters. All were assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, where they underwent operational testing with positive results, paving the way for a long-term agreement.

In addition to limited U.S. Army orders for Block I to Block II upgrades, Boeing has secured export customers including the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan. Deliveries of MH-47G Block II variants for U.S. Special Operations Forces are also continuing.

According to the plans of the U.S. Department of War, the existing fleet of around 465 CH-47F Chinook Block I helicopters will eventually be upgraded to the Block II configuration. The modernised aircraft also remains available for export.
