The missile met all objectives established for this phase of the certification programme, according to Avibras Aeroco. The company said the result demonstrated Brazil’s technological and operational capacity to work on complex defence systems.
The Tactical Cruise Missile forms part of the smart-munitions portfolio for the ASTROS Artillery System. It is designed to engage targets at ranges of up to 300 kilometres.
Brazilian Army and Avibras Aeroco personnel worked together on the launch and subsequent assessment. The activity combined military evaluation with the company’s missile-development expertise.
Brigadier General João Paulo Zago, head of the Army Evaluation Centre, attended the firing. Brigadier General Marcelo Gurgel do Amaral Silva, manager of the Army’s FOGOS Strategic Programme, and Brigadier General Moisés da Paixão Junior, manager of the Field Artillery Sub-programme, were also present.
The Army Projects Office and Manufacturing Directorate participated in the test. The Military Institute of Engineering and the Army Technology Centre also supported the activity.
