SIATT will hold a minority stake in AKAER under the ownership structure agreed for the transaction. That arrangement is designed to preserve AKAER’s status as an Empresa Estratégica de Defesa, or Strategic Defence Company, in Brazil.

For EDGE, the acquisition adds an established engineering base in Brazil and a multidisciplinary team able to work across the full product lifecycle. AKAER’s capabilities extend from initial design to industrialisation.
The two companies already work together on the development and industrialisation of unmanned systems. EDGE said that relationship had delivered significant results and provided a foundation for closer integration across the group.
The transaction expands EDGE’s investment in Brazil and is intended to support the country’s defence industry, strategic technologies and technological sovereignty. It is also expected to create direct and indirect jobs while developing domestic skills and capabilities.
AKAER was founded in 1992 and is based in São José dos Campos, São Paulo. The company has accumulated more than 10 million engineering hours across military and commercial aerospace programmes for global manufacturers.
