The collaboration, announced at the EURONAVAL exhibition in Paris, will enhance the UAE’s defence capabilities and broaden both companies’ expertise in underwater technology. The MoU is aimed at creating sophisticated solutions tailored for the unique requirements of navies worldwide, enabling new advancements in maritime defence.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director & CEO of EDGE, highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in the company’s rapid growth. “In just five years, EDGE has boldly expanded its reach across every domain of advanced technology and defence. Our ongoing partnership with Fincantieri exemplifies this strategy, opening limitless opportunities for both companies in the joint development and production of advanced surface and underwater naval solutions,” Al Marar stated.
The agreement will allow both EDGE and Fincantieri to share their engineering expertise and leverage extensive technical and production resources. This will lead to the development of innovative, interoperable systems, reinforcing the UAE’s standing in cutting-edge defence technologies and offering enhanced capabilities to navies around the globe.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, spoke about the significance of this partnership. “This agreement between Fincantieri and EDGE underscores a commitment to pioneering advancements in underwater technologies, combining engineering excellence with a forward-thinking approach. Together, we aim to develop systems that meet the highest standards of interoperability, addressing critical needs within both the defence and energy sectors,” said Folgiero. He further emphasised the collaborative focus on safety, resilience, and environmental responsibility in underwater operations.
The MAESTRAL Joint Venture will play a vital role in this effort, focusing on sales, commercial operations, and the engineering required for the design and servicing of both surface and underwater vessels. Additionally, this initiative promises to generate employment opportunities for skilled local and international talent, enhancing the region’s technological and economic landscape.
