On June 22, the European Commission officially opened the submissions for the European Defence Fund (EDF) 2023 calls for proposals.

EU Industry will now be able to submit collaborative defence project proposals through the dedicated EDF portal page.

This follows the decision taken on 30 March 2023 when the European Commission adopted the third annual Work Programme under the European Defence Fund (EDF) and the recent adoption of the budget complement enabling the allocation of more than €1 billion for 7 calls for proposals.

With these EDF 2023 calls for proposals, the Commission will provide funding for defence projects to jointly develop strategic defence capabilities and technologies agreed by Member States. It also introduces a series of new measures to promote defence innovation under the umbrella of the EU Defence Innovation Scheme (EUDIS).

The EDF 2023 Calls for proposals will support projects across the capability spectrum and in critical domains.

The deadline for applicants to submit proposals is 22 November 2023. Submitted project proposals will then be assessed following a competitive selection process.
