The facility will serve as a “Missile Hub,” providing a centralised location for the production, maintenance, repair, and modernisation of missile systems for the Bundeswehr and NATO partners. This development aims to enhance Germany’s defence infrastructure and strengthen European cooperation in defence.
Thomas Gottschild, Managing Director of MBDA Germany, emphasised the importance of this project. “MBDA is actively shaping this new era. We are aware of our responsibility and are making our industrial contribution to increasing munitions stockpiles and operational readiness. The visit of the Federal Defence Minister highlights the dedication of our workforce in these extraordinary times and underscores the critical partnership between politics, the German Armed Forces, and MBDA Germany,” he said.

Over the past year, MBDA has secured contracts to produce up to 1,000 Patriot GEM-T missiles under the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI), 2,600 PARM weapon systems, and several thousand Brimstone missiles. Additionally, MBDA is leading efforts to introduce and commission the Arrow 3 missile defence system in Germany.
To support these projects and future demands, MBDA plans to expand its Schrobenhausen site significantly. The facility will include additional production lines, increased storage capacity, and upgraded infrastructure by 2028. The company also aims to grow its workforce by 25%, increasing the number of employees to over 1,700 by the end of 2025.
