Germany to arm Brandenburg-class frigates with RBS15 Mk3 missiles

By Defence Industry Europe

The modernization of the German Navy's Brandenburg-class frigates is underway. As part of this process, the vessels will be armed with Saab RBS15 Mk3 anti-ship missiles.

However, prior to this, it is necessary to conduct a technical analysis of the existing ship installation, along with a final recommendation for the optimal launch system for RBS15 Mk3 missiles and its integration with the Saab 9LV combat management system.

As part of the study, a final report with the results will be prepared. It will also include the technical specifications required for the shipyard’s technical implementation of the proposed solutions. The technical analysis of the integration capabilities of Brandenburg-class frigates with RBS15 Mk3 missiles was commissioned by BAAINBw (Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr, the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support of the German Armed Forces).

RBS15 Mk3 missiles, co-produced by Saab and Diehl Defence, will replace the outdated MBDA MM38 Exocet missiles on the Brandenburg-class frigates.
