IAI wins deal for CellDart cellular intelligence system

By Arie Egozi

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has been awarded a contract to provide the CellDart cellular intelligence system for installation on airborne platforms to an international customer.

CellDart provides cellular interception and geolocation, both in legacy and in advanced networks. It is designed for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) activities, border and maritime protection, HLS, and law enforcement. In operation with customers worldwide, the system operates on either ground- or air-based platforms. CellDart operates both in passive and active modes for targeting and intercepting cellular communications. In addition, using patented technology comprising advanced antennas and algorithms, the sensor locates targeted cellular users with high positional accuracy. Targets are triggered and geolocated without disturbing the operation of commercial networks.

A compact and rugged system with minimal Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP), CellDart can be installed on lightweight aircraft or small UAVs, while a high-powered version can be deployed on larger UAVs, small aircraft, vehicles, and tower installations to provide wider coverage.

The systems are developed and provided by IAI’s ELTA division for Intelligence, Communications, and Electronic Warfare (EW). The division provides a full array of solutions supporting Electromagnetic Dominance – equipping forces with the means to sense, communicate, and navigate effectively using the electromagnetic spectrum while detecting and denying the enemy’s attempts to operate in this domain.

IAI’s President and CEO, Boaz Levy, said, “Collaboration agreements like the one we have just signed bring us to the forefront in all the fields in which we are active, thus increasing our portfolio of solutions.”

IAI’s ELTA Intelligence, Communications, and Electronic Warfare (EW) Division VP and GM, Adi Dulberg, said, “Cellular communications are increasingly being used in terrorist, paramilitary, and even military operations. Armed forces and HLS organizations are looking for solutions to expand their traditional Communications Intelligence (COMINT) capabilities to encompass the ability to detect, intercept, and accurately locate hostile cellular communication activities. With high-performing technology housed in a compact form factor, CellDart allows customers to deploy these capabilities widely, both in the air and on the ground.”
