By Defence Industry Europe

Jorge Tamarit Degenhardt has been named Chief Executive Officer of Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH, the management company overseeing the Eurofighter Typhoon programme. His appointment was approved by the consortium’s shareholders, and he will serve as a member of the Board of Management.

A dual Spanish-German national, Tamarit Degenhardt brings over two decades of experience from Airbus Defence & Space, where he held a variety of international executive roles. He succeeds Giancarlo Mezzanatto, who has returned to Leonardo S.p.A., as part of Eurofighter’s three-year partner company rotation policy.

Richard Hamilton, Chair of the Eurofighter Supervisory Board, welcomed the new CEO, stating, “Jorge brings significant leadership experience to the company, which will be of great value as more Typhoon orders are secured and deliveries continue in the coming decade.” Hamilton also extended thanks to Giancarlo Mezzanatto, recognising his contributions and successes during his tenure.

Tamarit Degenhardt is no stranger to the Eurofighter programme, having served as Programme Head for Spain, where he managed Airbus’s contributions to the consortium. He also led the Airbus C295 India Programme, overseeing the largest C295 order to date and establishing India’s first private-sector aerospace and defence production system.

I look forward to ensuring the Eurofighter programme continues its success in delivering state-of-the-art capabilities to meet current and future combat needs.”

The new CEO joins an experienced Board of Management, which includes Andy Kendall (BAE Systems), Cristiano Montrucchio (Leonardo S.p.A), Thomas Reinartz (Airbus Defence & Space), Giammarco Quaglia, and Stephan Miegel. Together, the leadership team is poised to guide the Eurofighter programme through its next phase of growth and development.
