The consoles were assembled, integrated and tested at Kongsberg Australia’s production and maintenance facility in Mawson Lakes, South Australia. The company said the shipment marks a major milestone in Australia’s sovereign defence manufacturing development.
Australian-made components and subsystems for the consoles were manufactured by REDARC Defence & Space and QPE Advanced Machining in South Australia. Eylex in New South Wales also contributed to the production effort.
“This first export delivery is a proud moment for our Australian team and supply chain partners, and our Global Supply Chain Program, demonstrating that Australian industry can deliver complex, high-tech defence capability to international customers while supporting sovereign capability in Australia,” said John Fry, Managing Director Kongsberg Australia.
The NSM CDS command-and-control consoles are based on the same common hardware currently supporting the Australian Army’s NASAMS air defence capability. Kongsberg said this shows how Australian manufacturing expertise can contribute directly to international programmes.
The NSM Coastal Defence System is a land-based maritime strike capability. Kongsberg said the system continues to see growing international demand.
The NSM CDS has been selected by Poland, the United States, Romania, Denmark and Latvia. The Naval Strike Missile has also been selected or is in service with the navies of Norway, Germany, the United States, Australia, Spain, Denmark, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
