Saab has announced a strategic investment of 11.1 million euros in Comand AI. The investment gives Saab a 10% equity stake in the Paris-based battlefield artificial intelligence company.

The investment will bring Comand AI’s AI-native planning solutions and technical expertise into Saab’s research and development ecosystem. Saab said the move will support the continued evolution of its command-and-control and C5ISR capabilities.

Those capabilities include systems such as GlobalEye and ongoing initiatives for multi-domain command and control. C5ISR refers to command, control, communications, computers, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

“C5ISR systems are central to modern multi-domain operations, and advanced AI is an important enabler for future capability,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance. “By partnering with Comand AI, we are strengthening the development of Saab’s C2 and C5ISR capabilities while bringing Swedish defence expertise and French AI innovation together. This collaboration also underlines the value of European cooperation in support of long-term security.”

Saab said the initiative also strengthens its cooperation with French industry. The company said it will promote deeper integration within France’s innovative technology sector.

The investment aligns with Saab’s broader commitment to enhancing European sovereignty. Saab said it also contributes to a more resilient and adaptable European defence industry capable of developing high-performance capabilities.

The company said this approach is intended to deliver sovereign and scalable solutions for its global customers. The investment also broadens Saab’s links with European artificial intelligence expertise in the defence sector.
