NORAD intercepts civilian aircraft in restricted airspace near bedminster, New Jersey

By Defence Industry Europe

A North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) fighter aircraft intercepted a civilian general aviation aircraft that entered restricted airspace over Bedminster, New Jersey. The incident occurred at approximately 2:39 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on the day of the violation.

The intercept was part of NORAD’s response to a total of five Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) breaches that day, including three prior incursions and one that followed later. NORAD aircraft performed a headbutt manoeuvre to draw the pilot’s attention and safely escorted the aircraft out of the restricted area.

“NORAD employs a layered defence network of radars, satellites, and fighter aircraft to identify and respond to potential threats,” the command stated. The detection and handling of this incident reflect NORAD’s ongoing aerospace warning and control mission in defence of the United States and Canada.
