The facility is part of a wider East Gate campus that will comprise several buildings covering about 845,000 square feet. Northrop Grumman expects the site to have capacity for 1,500 employees by 2032.
East Gate 3 increases the company’s manufacturing footprint across Clearfield and Layton to more than 2 million square feet. The expansion adds production capacity for next-generation aircraft and strengthens the industrial base supporting the B-21.
Layton specialises in the manufacture of sixth-generation aircraft, with the B-21 as its principal programme. The neighbouring Clearfield site produces composite structures and provides sustainment services for military and commercial aircraft.
Clearfield supports the B-21 alongside the F-35 Lightning II, Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile and Airbus A350 XWB programmes. The proximity of the two sites gives Northrop Grumman a concentrated manufacturing presence in northern Utah.
The company is Utah’s largest defence contractor and employs more than 11,000 people in the state. Northrop Grumman said its continuing investment was creating hundreds of additional jobs across several missions and programmes.
A recent study cited by the company found that its operations support more than 46,000 jobs across Utah and generate more than $12.4 billion for the state economy. Northrop Grumman also works with more than 600 supplier partners in Utah.
The company’s other operations in the state cover strategic missiles, navigation systems and solid-rocket propulsion. Sites in Roy, Salt Lake City, Promontory, Bacchus and Copper Crossing support programmes including Sentinel, Minuteman III, F-22, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, Trident II and NASA’s Artemis programme.
Northrop Grumman operates more than 30 million square feet of manufacturing space across its business. The East Gate expansion forms part of its broader investment in U.S. facilities, research, workforce development and supply-chain capacity for national security programmes.
