The aircraft are to be delivered by the end of 2031. They are expected to be built in the Block II configuration.
The order is intended, among other things, to keep the E-2D final assembly line operating in the coming years. Northrop Grumman currently holds a backlog of about 28 aircraft, according to the information provided.
The award comes as the future of the production line remains tied to further domestic or export demand. In the absence of recent marketing successes, the U.S. Department of War has already started initial funding linked to the planned wind-down of production.
Northrop Grumman is working with the U.S. federal administration on efforts that could support further E-2D sales outside the United States.
Northrop Grumman is also carrying out modernization work on aircraft that have already been delivered. Those projects include changes to the fuel system, including the installation of an aerial refueling probe.
The company is also working on cockpit reconstruction and the replacement of required onboard avionics components. The latest order therefore supports near-term production continuity while the wider program depends on follow-on demand and export opportunities.
