Norway to transfer two NASAMS launchers to Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

The Norwegian government has announced its decision to provide Ukraine with a Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) air defence support package, aimed at bolstering Ukraine's defence capabilities. The package includes two launchers, two fire control centers, and spare parts.

Norwegian Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram emphasized the importance of this package, stating, “This will ensure endurance, redundancy, and flexibility and thus increase the effectiveness of the already donated air defence to Ukraine.”

Norway had previously delivered two complete NASAMS units to Ukraine in March.

The United States has also played a role in supporting Ukraine’s air defence capabilities. In November 2022, the U.S. provided two NASAMS systems to Ukraine.

Additionally, in May, Washington authorized the sale of a NASAMS air defence system and associated equipment worth USD 285 million to Kyiv.

Furthermore, on June 28, Lithuania announced that it had purchased two NASAMS units for Ukraine, further bolstering Ukraine’s defence capabilities.

The NASAMS system, known for its reliability and effectiveness, will significantly contribute to Ukraine’s air defence capabilities. With the additional support from Norway, the United States, and Lithuania, Ukraine is strengthening its ability to protect its airspace and enhance its national security.
