Oshkosh Defense secures USD 214.8 million order for U.S. Army tactical vehicles

Oshkosh Defense, a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation, has received multiple new orders from the U.S. Army Contracting Command – Detroit Arsenal (ACC-DTA) for its Family of Medium Tactical Vehicle A2 (FMTV A2) trucks and trailers. The contracts, valued at USD 214.8 million, highlight the company’s ongoing role in supporting the modernisation of U.S. Army equipment.

A key feature of the recent orders includes the introduction of Low Velocity Air Drop (LVAD) vehicles, marking a first for the FMTV A2 series. Designed for rapid deployment in contested and remote environments, these vehicles demonstrated their effectiveness in a successful airdrop test in 2024.

Pat Williams, Chief Programs Officer at Oshkosh Defense, emphasised the importance of the new LVAD vehicles in military operations. “The FMTV A2 LVAD reinforces the U.S. Army’s commitment to equipping soldiers with the capability they need, when and where they need it most,” he stated.

The FMTV A2 offers 19 different variants, each tailored to meet evolving battlefield requirements. With increased payload capacity and enhanced mobility, the vehicles improve mission efficiency by providing greater flexibility in the transport of troops, equipment, and supplies.

Advanced suspension and stability control systems enable the FMTV A2 to navigate difficult terrains, ensuring the rapid and safe deployment of personnel and essential assets. These features reduce logistical strain and enhance operational effectiveness in complex military environments.

Williams expressed confidence in the programme’s progress, stating, “With fielding already underway this year, these additional orders build on the momentum of the FMTV A2 programme, and we’re eager for soldiers to benefit from its enhanced mobility, protection, and payload capacity.”

Oshkosh Defense expects a contract extension in Spring 2025, covering order years 8-10. Since securing its initial contract in 2018, the company has received orders for more than 3,000 FMTV A2 vehicles, solidifying its position as a trusted supplier of military transport solutions.
