Saab to provide British Army with training solutions for exercises in Oman

By Defence Industry Europe

Saab has secured a GBP 20 million contract amendment from the UK Ministry of Defence, expanding the Instrumented Live Training (ILT-D) agreement signed in April 2024. This amendment will provide the British Army with advanced training equipment and support services for its live training exercises in Oman, with deliveries scheduled between 2024 and 2025.

The new order includes Saab’s latest high-fidelity training and simulation systems, designed to replicate combat engagements realistically and provide measurable outcomes. This equipment will integrate with the Ministry of Defence’s existing Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES) system, enhancing the British Army’s capability to review and improve training performance through accurate data collection.

Saab will also deliver training services to optimise the system’s availability and functionality, managing the Exercise Control (ExCon) environment to ensure accurate tracking and analysis of training exercises. Andy Fraser, Group Managing Director at Saab UK, emphasised Saab’s focus on interoperability, stating that the system will support seamless collaboration with the Royal Army of Oman and other international allies.

Saab’s solution can be deployed globally, allowing flexibility for training beyond Oman and ensuring compatibility with NATO standards to support joint operations.
