Slovenia and Finland sign letter of intent on Patria 8×8 armoured vehicle procurement

By Defence Industry Europe

Slovenia and Finland have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to support Slovenia’s planned procurement of 8x8 Armoured Modular Vehicles (AMV) from Patria. The document was signed in Brussels on 13 February 2025 by Slovenian Minister of Defence Borut Sajovic and Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.

The agreement reflects both countries’ willingness to cooperate in the procurement process, with Finland providing support to Slovenia in acquiring the Patria AMV XP 8×8 vehicles. The LoI was jointly prepared by the defence ministries of both nations and serves as a basis for further collaboration.

The Patria AMV XP 8×8 is a modular and advanced armoured vehicle, designed to offer high mobility, protection, and firepower. It has already been selected for military vehicle programmes in Slovakia and Japan.

Finnish Defence Minister Häkkänen highlighted Finland’s expertise in armoured vehicle development and its role in supporting Slovenia’s acquisition process. He also noted that Finland’s government-to-government trade model has been effective in previous defence export agreements.

The Letter of Intent is not legally binding but establishes a foundation for continued cooperation. It marks a step in Slovenia’s defence procurement plans while strengthening defence industry relations between Finland and Slovenia.
