Terma wins Danish nationwide counter-drone contract, linking military and civilian sensors into sovereign AI-enabled defence network

Denmark has selected Terma to deliver a nationwide counter-drone command-and-control system that will connect military, civilian and critical-infrastructure sensors into a shared operational picture. The sovereign system will use AI-supported processing to help the Danish Armed Forces and other authorities detect, classify and respond to drone threats in real time.

The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation, DALO, awarded the agreement as part of Denmark’s wider effort to build an integrated counter-drone capability. The system is intended to replace today’s fragmented flow of information by bringing data from existing and future sensors into a single situational picture.

“I am pleased to sign this agreement, which will strengthen Denmark’s ability to maintain an up-to-date drone situational picture,” said Lieutenant General Per Pugholm Olsen, Chief of DALO. “This new agreement with Terma is an important cornerstone in the ongoing effort to build a strong counter-drone capability, both within the Danish Armed Forces and Danish industry.”

At the centre of the architecture is Terma Helion, the company’s sovereign multi-domain data backbone. Helion will connect distributed systems and consolidate their output into information that can support tactical decisions at both local and central levels.

The solution will also integrate OSL Technology’s FACE platform for command and control and data fusion, following Terma’s acquisition of OSL in 2025. FACE combines information from Terma radar and surveillance technologies with third-party sensors and countermeasures, while AI helps classify and prioritise data for operators.

Thygesen, CEO of Terma. “The ability to connect sensors, process data and turn information into timely decision support is essential to effective counter-drone defense.”

It confirms our ability to deliver mission-critical defense solutions that strengthen security in Denmark and across Europe.”

The system is designed to maintain Danish control over operational sensor data while remaining open to equipment from multiple suppliers. Its modular architecture will allow Denmark to add sensors, sites, countermeasures and other capabilities as drone threats and operational requirements change.

Terma said the network can support counter-drone operations at military bases, airports, ports, energy facilities, government buildings and other critical infrastructure. The company will deliver the capability with other Danish industry partners, drawing on expertise across the country’s defence sector.

OSL Technology brings existing operational experience to the programme, including its role as prime contractor and system integrator for Heathrow Airport’s counter-drone system since 2019. It also supplies counter-drone systems to Norway’s Ørland and Evenes air bases under a multi-year framework agreement with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency.

The Danish system is intended to provide authorities with a common picture of drone activity rather than operating individual detection networks in isolation. It will combine detection, tracking, AI-supported data fusion and command-and-control functions while allowing additional countermeasures to be incorporated over time.
