The Netherlands to arm its AH-64E Apaches with AGM-179 JAGM missiles

By Defence Industry Europe

The Netherlands plans to purchase AGM-179 JAGM (Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles) for its fleet of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from the United States. This was announced by the Secretary of State for Defence of the Netherlands Christophe van der Maat.

According to the Dutch Ministry of Defence, the Netherlands will order the AGM-179 JAGM missiles under single-source procurement. The AGM-179 JAGM missiles are manufactured by American industry giant Lockheed Martin.

The first missiles will be delivered to the Netherlands Armed Forces in 2026, the Dutch Ministry of Defence said.

The Dutch fleet of Apache attack helicopters fleet is currently being upgraded from the AH-64D to the AH-64E standard. The work is carried out in the Boeing facility in the United States.

Part of this upgrade is the integration of AN/APG-78 Longbow radar with the helicopters. This system will allow the upgraded Dutch Apaches to effectively use the AGM-179 JAGM missiles.

In addition to the AGM-179 JAGM, the Netherlands will also purchase the Captive Training Missiles.
