The command said U.S. forces struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites and anti-ship missile capabilities. It said the strikes also targeted more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait.
CENTCOM said the purpose of the strikes was to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce moving through the trade corridor. The Strait of Hormuz is described in the statement as an international trade corridor.
The command said Iran had recently attacked three commercial vessels transiting the strait. It identified them as the Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat, the Saudi Arabia-flagged M/T Wedyan and the Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity.
CENTCOM described the attacks on the vessels as unwarranted aggression by Iranian forces. It said the actions were a clear and dangerous violation of the ceasefire and undermined freedom of navigation.
The command said U.S. forces remain positioned and prepared to hold Iran accountable if the agreement is not followed. It did not provide additional details in the statement on damage assessments or casualties from the strikes.
