Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said its forces destroyed more than 8,000 drones and missiles in October 2026 as Russia changed attack routes and altitudes and combined strike drones with decoys. The ministry said ballistic missile defence remained a particular challenge, requiring additional effective interception capabilities.

Figures attributed to the Ukrainian Air Force included 2,688 Shahed-238 attack drones intercepted during the month. Another 4,455 interceptions covered Shahed-131/136 and Gerbera-type attack drones, as well as Parodiya-type decoys.

The account also listed 1,104 reconnaissance drones and 809 Lancet drones intercepted. Separately, the Air Force said more than 43,000 tactical-level unmanned aircraft were neutralised over the same period.

Ukrainian forces intercepted 14 Kh-101, 12 Kalibr and eight Iskander-K cruise missiles, according to the ministry. The tally also included 11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, seven Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles and one Zircon anti-ship missile.

A further 143 S8000 Banderol cruise missiles were listed among the interceptions. The ministry described an air defence effort involving fighter and army aviation, surface-to-air missile units, mobile fire groups, unmanned systems operators and electronic warfare systems.

Russia systematically varied flight paths and altitudes while combining attack drones, decoys and large-scale missile strikes throughout October, the ministry said. Ukraine is continuing to integrate its air defence layers and introduce new methods of detecting and neutralising threats.

The ministry said Russian forces actively used ballistic missiles against civilian infrastructure during the month. It identified the need for more effective means of countering those weapons as a priority for protecting Ukrainian airspace.
