Weibel Scientific will supply its XENTA-M5 radar for Poland’s SAN counter-drone programme under an €84 million contract with PIT-RADWAR, the largest order in the Danish company’s history. The radar will provide detection, tracking and classification data to a system that brings together sensors, command-and-control equipment and effectors within Poland’s national air defence.

XENTA-M5 is designed to detect targets ranging from small, low-flying drones to aircraft and other airborne threats. Its continuously updated air picture will feed SAN’s command-and-control architecture, giving operators more time and information to assess threats and decide how to respond, according to Weibel.

“Turning Counter-UAS ambition into operational capability starts with the ability to see and understand the threat,” said Peter Røpke, chief executive of Weibel Scientific. “XENTA-M5 provides the detection, tracking and classification that enables the wider system to act.”

The order brings new demands on Weibel’s production capacity and delivery operations as its radar technology becomes part of a major European defence programme. The company said the contract builds on a business that has delivered more than 6,000 radar systems to customers in over 45 countries.

“Weibel has the technology,” Røpke said. “This contract raises the bar for what we must deliver as a company and the responsibility we take on as Europe strengthens its defense capability.”

PIT-RADWAR, Weibel’s customer under the contract, is a Polish defence electronics company specialising in radar, command-and-control and air-defence systems. Weibel described SAN as a step towards translating Europe’s Drone Wall ambition into operational counter-drone capability on its eastern flank.
