U.S. approves sale of 31 MQ-9B SkyGuardian drones to India

The United States Department of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale of MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft to India, the Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on February 2.

 

The potential value of the future contract, including 31 MQ-9B SkyGuardian drones with related equipment, is estimated at USD 3.99 billion.

“The proposed sale will improve India’s capability to meet current and future threats by enabling unmanned surveillance and reconnaissance patrols in sea lanes of operation. India has demonstrated a commitment to modernizing its military and will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces,” DSCA said in a statement.

The principal contractor will be General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI).
