The academy, located on a former military base in Dijon, France, offers a range of programmes tailored to international air force requirements. These include future fighter pilot training, L-39 pilot instructor certification, retraining for experienced fighter pilots, and specialised training in close air support missions for pilots and advanced controllers (JTAC).
All courses are designed and delivered by experienced former fighter pilots from the French Air and Space Force. The training is aligned with NATO’s standard operational procedures and incorporates advanced scenarios on the L-39 aircraft to reflect realistic combat conditions.
With the addition of these aircraft, Babcock aims to support fighter squadrons, military ships, and French and European army units with aerial training missions. These capabilities include the use of aircraft as aerial targets for military exercises, further enhancing the operational readiness of their clients.
Pierre Basquin, Babcock’s Chief Executive Aviation and CEO France, emphasised the importance of military pilot training in maintaining robust defence capabilities. “Expanding our military training activity aligns with our ambition to support our customers’ needs, both in the short and long term,” he said. “Our programmes develop technical skills and instil essential attitudes for facing field challenges, ensuring a comprehensive training experience that mirrors real military flying environments.”
The L-39 aircraft, which previously flew as part of the “Breitling Jet Team,” bring an esteemed legacy to the academy. Known for their aerobatic displays across Europe, North America, and Asia, these aircraft now serve a vital role in preparing military pilots for modern combat scenarios.
