The project will centre on integrating a new digital radio system into the site while ensuring all data from the battle management system is displayed in the command and control centre. As part of this effort, the existing radio infrastructure will undergo substantial expansion and upgrading.
Rheinmetall will also establish a new broadband radio network based on 5G technology and integrate Tactical Core software from its subsidiary Blackned into the centre’s communications framework. These steps are intended to strengthen training and leadership capabilities for the Bundeswehr and NATO allies, creating multinational interoperability in the Altmark region.
Upon completion, the standard of training at the centre will be raised significantly, building on evaluation software that already displays language and position. The digital command processes of the Sitaware Frontline and HQ systems used by the Bundeswehr will also be incorporated into the training software, enabling more comprehensive assessment of exercises for all participants.
By the end of 2024, Rheinmetall had secured several major digitalisation contracts for the Bundeswehr, including work on land forces’ vehicle and platform IT systems for D-LBO and the Tactical Wide Area Network for Land Based Operations. The new contract marks another advance in making the German Army’s training facility fully ready for D-LBO.
