The U.S. Army has selected L3Harris Technologies to provide its NOVA night-vision goggle system under the Binocular Night Observation Device (BiNOD) program. The award is part of a seven-year contract valued at up to $465 million, with L3Harris among several companies chosen to support the initiative.

The NOVA system is a helmet-mounted binocular device designed to enhance situational awareness in all weather and lighting conditions. It integrates L3Harris’ image intensifier technology to modernize capabilities for U.S. forces and allied users.

The system is intended to meet operational requirements for more than two decades. It provides soldiers with improved visibility and performance during day and night operations.

The BiNOD program reflects the Army’s effort to field next-generation observation systems. It aims to deliver advanced, cost-effective solutions for frontline personnel.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, said: “As an appropriator and a senior member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, I’m committed to supporting our national security by ensuring our service men and women have access to the best equipment to defend our freedoms.” She added: “Investments like this not only bolster the Granite State’s economy, but also directly contribute to the safety and security of the United States and our allies.”

Brenna Baker, President of Integrated Vision Solutions, Communications & Spectrum Dominance at L3Harris, said: “We worked closely with the Army to understand their requirements for a next-generation binocular solution that is highly capable and low cost.” She added: “We are focused on moving directly into production to quickly put this capability into the hands of soldiers.”

The contract builds on L3Harris’ existing role in U.S. night-vision programs. The company has previously supported the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular (ENVG-B) system.

L3Harris has delivered more than 20,000 ENVG-B units to date. The BiNOD award extends the company’s involvement in providing advanced vision systems to the U.S. military.

The NOVA system is expected to support improved operational effectiveness. It forms part of broader efforts to enhance soldier capabilities through advanced technology.
