The agreement was formalised at the Eurosatory defence exhibition in Paris. Allison Transmission said it is the largest single tracked defence programme contract in the company’s history.
The CV90 MkIV programme will serve as the inaugural production platform for Allison’s 4040 MX transmission. Production deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028.
The 4040 MX cross-drive transmission was engineered as an evolution of Allison’s proven 3040 MX. The new system delivers increased power ratings and updated electronic controls while maintaining the existing 3040 MX spatial footprint.
Allison said the unchanged spatial footprint allows the transmission to integrate seamlessly with the CV90 MkIV’s Scania engine. The company conducted extensive integration testing with BAE Systems Hägglunds over a two-year period to ensure the solution is mission ready.
Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, President at BAE Systems Hägglunds, said the selection of the 4040 MX was important for the CV90 MkIV programme. “The integration and selection of Allison’s 4040 MX cross-drive transmission into the CV90 MkIV is a critical milestone in delivering increased mobility and performance,” said Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, President at BAE Systems Hägglunds.
“This contract highlights our mutual commitment to providing robust solutions that meet the evolving operational requirements of the armed forces.” The statement linked the transmission choice to the need for mobility and performance in modern tracked combat vehicles.
Dana Pittard, Vice President of Defense Programs at Allison Transmission, said the contract reflected the reliability of Allison’s propulsion systems. “This historic agreement underscores the proven reliability of Allison’s propulsion solutions in the most demanding environments and missions,” said Dana Pittard, Vice President of Defense Programs at Allison Transmission.
“By working with BAE Systems Hägglunds, we are delivering a propulsion solution that not only meets the rigorous demands of modern combat vehicles but also demonstrates our collective readiness to support national security initiatives around the world.” Allison said the agreement supports its role as a supplier of high-performance mobility and work solutions.
The contract gives Allison’s 4040 MX its first production platform in the CV90 MkIV. It also expands the company’s tracked defence vehicle work through a major programme with BAE Systems Hägglunds.
