The contract will provide a wide range of support services including vehicle maintenance, asset management, and training, ensuring enhanced operational readiness both in the UK and overseas. It also aims to deliver greater value for money through improved engineering and supply chain capabilities.
Babcock will continue to invest in its 1,600-strong workforce across more than 20 UK sites, with a focus on skills development and a strong apprenticeship scheme. This effort supports the delivery of the Defence Industrial Strategy and contributes to long-term economic growth.
A comprehensive transformation programme will also be implemented, helping to modernise the Army’s support infrastructure and lay the groundwork for future capability. This collaboration with the MOD includes joint investment in facilities and equipment.
“In a period of increased global instability, more is being expected of our armed forces,” said Babcock Chief Executive Officer, David Lockwood. “This contract extension ensures that Babcock continues to provide the British Army with the tools to do its job, when and wherever they are needed.”
Defence Secretary John Healey MP welcomed the deal, saying: “Tanks, armoured vehicles and kit are the backbone of the British Army. We are taking action to ensure the outstanding service men and women of our Armed Forces are properly equipped and ready to respond to ever-changing global threats.”
He added: “This substantial investment with Babcock demonstrates how defence is an engine for growth: supporting businesses of all sizes and sustaining more than 1,600 good, well-paid jobs across Britain.”
