BAE Systems completed its 1,000th repair for the U.S. Air Force’s KC-135 Stratotanker fleet at its Endicott, New York, facility. The company has supported the fleet for more than 40 years and is the sole supplier of the tanker’s fuel management system.

BAE maintains the system’s Fuel Management Advisory Computer and Integrated Fuel Management Panel. The work keeps older hardware in service and provides upgrades intended to help the tanker operate in contested airspace.

“Reaching this milestone for the KC-135 is a testament to our team’s technical expertise and the strength of the system’s design,” said Corson Witham, BAE’s program manager for sustainment. “By maintaining the reliability of these critical flight systems, we support the U.S. Air Force’s operational readiness goals.”

BAE has developed an upgrade with modules that maintenance crews can replace individually and that the company says exceed the Air Force’s future requirements for mean time between failures. The system meets the service’s Aviation Maintenance System—Global Requirements Assurance framework and uses an open architecture to make future repairs and upgrades easier.
