BlueHalo secures USD 49.9 million contract for UAS electronic warfare sensor systems

By Defence Industry Europe

BlueHalo, a prominent innovator in global defence technologies, has been awarded a USD 49.9 million contract by the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific. This five-year agreement will see the company deliver advanced electronic warfare (EW) sensors and provide engineering services for Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) used by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

Under the contract, BlueHalo will design, upgrade, test, and integrate cutting-edge sensor systems onto multiple UAS platforms. These efforts aim to enhance mission-critical capabilities while offering ongoing support, including operational training, repair, and replacement services for sensor systems.

James Batt, Chief Growth Officer at BlueHalo, highlighted the company’s longstanding partnership with NIWC Pacific. “NIWC Pacific has relied on our EW sensors for over 15 years, and this contract reinforces the trust placed in our innovative solutions to counter global threats effectively,” he stated.

The EW sensors will leverage modular open system approaches (MOSA) and Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) to enable seamless integration across various UAS platforms. These include the Group 3 Unmanned Aerial System (G3UAS), the USSOCOM Multi-mission Tactical Unmanned Aerial System (MTUAS), and the Mid-Endurance Unmanned Aerial System (MEUAS).

Mary Clum, President of BlueHalo’s Products & Space Systems Portfolio, emphasised the technical complexity of integrating EW systems. “Our modular and scalable systems ensure interoperability across platforms, addressing diverse mission needs efficiently,” she explained.
