Saab did not identify the buyer and said no further information would be released because of the customer’s circumstances and national security interests. The order adds to international demand for GlobalEye, Saab’s multi-domain airborne surveillance and command platform.
GlobalEye combines active and passive sensors to detect and identify objects at long range. The system is designed to monitor activity in the air, at sea and over land.
The aircraft provides real-time information to joint forces and is intended to improve situational awareness across wide operational areas. Saab said the system supports early detection of threats and modern air-defence operations.
“This order underscores our commitment to providing customers with mission-proven, multi-domain AEW&C capability,” said Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab. “The increasing international interest in GlobalEye reflects its effectiveness and reliability in modern air defence operations.”
The SEK 10.1 billion award gives Saab another major commitment for its airborne surveillance business. The company disclosed only the number of aircraft, contract value, delivery schedule and broad geographic location of the customer.
The order also adds two aircraft to Saab’s GlobalEye production pipeline for delivery at the end of the decade. No further information about the customer or operational configuration has been released.
