As part of the programme, Spain’s CH-47D helicopters were thoroughly rebuilt and modernised to the CH-47F standard, offering improved capabilities for military transport operations.
The first of these upgraded helicopters was completed in the second half of 2021, undergoing a series of tests before being delivered to Spain.
Contract complete. ✅
We delivered the 17th @EjercitoTierra CH-47F #Chinook.
But there’s more to come for the longest-serving international Chinook operator. Spain will round out its fleet in 2026 with an additional aircraft ordered last year. pic.twitter.com/0lJxgZQR35

The delivery of the seventeenth helicopter concludes this phase of the programme, but further expansion is planned.
In July 2023, a new production agreement was signed between the US Department of Defense and Boeing, which includes the delivery of an eighteenth CH-47F Chinook for Spain.
Boeing has stated that this additional unit is expected to be delivered by 2026, enhancing Spain’s operational capability.
The CH-47F Chinook is a key asset for the Spanish military, performing transport missions for all branches of its armed forces.
The fleet is complemented by multi-role NHIndustries NH90TTH helicopters, which provide additional flexibility for military operations.
