This marks the completion of a USD 12 billion contract that was signed in 2017. Back in 2016, the US approved a potential foreign military sale to Qatar for 72 F-15QAs valued at USD 21.1 billion. As part of the agreement at the time, Boeing committed to establishing and operating a crew training and maintenance center for Qatar’s Emir Air Force at Al Udeid Air Base by 2024, while also offering in-country spare parts and logistical support after the aircraft were delivered.
Qatar’s inaugural F-15QA fighter took its first flight in Boeing’s St. Louis on April 14, 2020. The new aircraft are intended to replace the French Mirage 2000-5F. In the face of regional threats, Qatar has significantly bolstered its arsenal through substantial weapons acquisitions in recent years, including the procurement of 36 Rafales, 24 Eurofighter Typhoons, and the F-15QA.
