Denmark delivers first F-16 to Argentina under fighter jet agreement

By Defence Industry Europe

Denmark has dispatched the first of its F-16 aircraft to Argentina as part of a broader agreement to sell 24 jets, along with support equipment and spare parts. The contract, signed in spring 2024 by Denmark’s Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) and the Argentine Air Force, marks a significant step in cooperation between the two nations.

The initial shipment, sent from Aalborg Air Base, included a non-operational F-16 aircraft, repurposed as a technical trainer. The trainer is intended for the Argentine Air Force to begin developing its fighter aircraft maintenance capabilities and train technical personnel.

“This agreement demonstrates our strategic approach to phasing out the F-16 while generating revenue and supporting Argentina in developing its fighter capacity,” said Colonel Klaus Qvist, Head of DALO’s Air Force Division. “It is a positive outcome for all involved.”

The aircraft, designated ET-210, previously played a notable role as a chase plane during Denmark’s participation in the F-35 programme at Edwards Air Base in the United States. Its conversion to a training platform reflects its ongoing utility in a new capacity.

Operational F-16 deliveries to Argentina are scheduled to begin in 2025, with six aircraft arriving that year. Denmark will continue delivering six operational F-16s annually until 2028 as its own fleet transitions to the F-35.
