In early May, the Dutch Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Saab, the leading Swedish defence solutions provider, for the Carl-Gustaf M4 multi-purpose shoulder weapon system.

The Carl-Gustaf M4 will replace the German-made Panzerfaust 3 anti-tank systems in the Dutch Armed Forces, the ministry said in a statement.

Key details of the contract, including the number of Carl-Gustaf M4 systems acquired and the value of the deal, remain undisclosed. However, the Dutch ministry stated that the first batch of the Swedish-made system is expected to be delivered to the armed forces this year.

The delivery of all ordered Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon systems will take more than two years, with the final units scheduled to be handed over to the Dutch Armed Forces in 2028.

The Dutch Ministry of Defence noted that the Carl-Gustaf M4 offers a longer range than the Panzerfaust 3, reaching up to 800 metres compared to the Panzerfaust 3’s maximum range of 600 metres. Additionally, the Swedish weapon system is capable of firing a variety of ammunition types, including programmable munitions.
