The Finnish Defence Forces have previously acquired a total of 31 Sisu GTP 4×4 vehicles in 2020 and 2022, known for their exceptional off-road performance.
These vehicles are essential for navigating Finland’s challenging terrains, ensuring increased mobility and versatility for the armed forces.
Minister Häkkänen underscored the procurement’s significance, stating, “By procuring domestic vehicles, we develop the Army’s mobility and secure military security of supply. In addition, the procurement has a significant regional employment effect in Western Uusimaa.”
This reflects Finland’s dual approach of strengthening defence while stimulating economic growth.
Furthermore, this acquisition is part of a broader collaborative framework with Sweden. Both countries have committed to a joint procurement arrangement for various military systems, including off-road vehicles, armoured vehicles, and artillery systems, as formalized in a document signed in May 2023.
This partnership is aimed at improving security of supply and reducing procurement costs, marking a strategic alliance in defence between Finland and Sweden.
