Finnish company Digia secures framework agreement with NATO

By Defence Industry Europe

Digia, a leading Finnish provider of digital solutions, has been selected as a framework agreement supplier for the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA). This agreement enables Digia to participate in significant procurement and tendering processes conducted by NATO and its member countries, marking a major milestone for the company’s international strategy and Defence business expansion.

Under this agreement, Digia gains approved supplier status with NATO, allowing it to contribute to projects related to IT infrastructure and digitalisation. “This framework agreement is a significant and consistent step in the implementation of Digia’s internationalisation strategy,” stated Timo Levoranta, CEO of Digia Plc.

The selection of Digia as one of the first Finnish companies to achieve this status reflects rigorous approval by both NATO and Finnish security authorities. Harri Suni, Director of Digia’s Defence business, noted, “It is great to be part of the group that exports Finnish defence and security sector expertise to the world. Digia’s extensive expertise as a provider of intelligent digital solutions enables us to participate very comprehensively in the future tenders of the Alliance.”

Digia’s Defence business has a solid foundation built over decades of experience in developing digital services for the defence and security sector. The business unit, established with a focus on consolidating expertise, solutions, and client relationships, counts the Finnish Defence Forces as its largest customer.

The Defence business has seen steady growth, with plans under Suni’s leadership to further expand expertise and enhance international cooperation. This strategic direction aims to offer clients innovative solutions, including those involving emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and autonomous systems.

“Finnish expertise in the defence and security sector is valued internationally,” Suni said, emphasising the increasing demand for intelligent, secure digital solutions. He added that the evolving security landscape amplifies the need for dual-use solutions and cutting-edge technology.

Suni also highlighted the importance of collaboration within the Finnish industry, stressing the potential to bolster national security through active international participation. “Finnish companies should take advantage of this opportunity in close cooperation while at the same time building a new kind of cooperation culture. Together, we are always stronger,” he concluded.
