Germany completes delivery of Leopard 2A4 tanks to Czech Republic

By Defence Industry Europe

Germany has fulfilled its commitment to the Czech Republic by handing over the final batch of Leopard 2A4 tanks, marking the completion of a significant military support exchange. This transfer is in recognition of the Czech Republic's military assistance to Ukraine, which involved supplying T-72M1 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

With this latest delivery, the Czech military’s armored forces have significantly strengthened, receiving a total of 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks. Although these tanks serve as an interim solution, they substantially enhance the Czech armored capabilities. The Czech Republic has plans to eventually join the Leopard 2A8 user club, with Prague reportedly aiming to sign a contract for 77 such tanks.

The Leopard 2A tanks, provided free of charge by Germany, compensate for the several dozen T-72M1 tanks that the Czechs sent to Ukraine in the early days of the Russian invasion. All tanks delivered by Berlin have been allocated to the 73rd Tank Battalion in Přáslavice, where trained crews are ready to operate them.
