Germany to order new self-propelled howitzers by end of March

By Defence Industry Europe

German Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius expects the agreement for new self-propelled howitzers for Bundeswehr will be signed by end of next month. In this way, Berlin aims to replace the guns that the government sent to Ukraine.

“If everything works out, the contracts for the new howitzers will be signed by the end of the coming month,” German Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius told ARD.

Pistorius did not specify the number of howitzers Berlin plans to order.

However, according to information disclosed by the government, Germany has so far supplied Ukraine with 14 155mm self-propelled howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000 produced by one of the biggest German arms manufactured Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW).

In addition, Germany will supply Ukraine with 18 self-propelled howitzers RCH 155 but these guns will come from the new production of KMW.
