Germany to purchase four PATRIOT air defence systems

By Defence Industry Europe

The German Parliament has officially approved the acquisition of four PATRIOT air defence systems, marking a significant enhancement to the nation's military capabilities.

In light of the German Air Force’s recent support to Ukraine, which involved the transfer of two PATRIOT systems, this procurement aims to replenish and expand Germany’s air and missile defence assets.

Prior to this contribution, Germany had 10 of these systems dedicated to its own defense. The PATRIOT systems are renowned globally for their sophistication and effectiveness in neutralizing a variety of aerial threats, including enemy aircraft, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. These systems boast the capability to engage targets up to 100 kilometers away and at altitudes as high as 30 kilometers.

The total investment for the acquisition of the four PATRIOT air defence systems is estimated at approximately EUR 1.3 billion.
