The Industry Day focused on expanding industrial partnerships linked to the K9 self-propelled howitzer and Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher programmes for the Norwegian Armed Forces. Hanwha Aerospace said the initiative forms part of its long-term commitment to establishing a regular framework for cooperation with Norwegian industry.
According to the company, around 30 Norwegian firms attended the event alongside officials from the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency. Participating companies represented sectors including precision machining, launch vehicle testing and speciality materials.
Representatives from Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Ocean met with Norwegian firms to assess local industrial capabilities and identify potential areas for cooperation. The programme also included presentations on Hanwha’s defence systems, partnerships with NATO members and the planned expansion of industrial cooperation activities in Norway.
Hanwha Aerospace’s defence cooperation with Norway began in 2017 with the first contract for K9 self-propelled howitzers. Additional agreements were signed in 2022 and September 2025, which together will expand Norway’s K9 fleet to 52 systems.
In January 2026, Hanwha Aerospace signed a contract valued at approximately $922 million to supply 16 Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher systems to the Norwegian Armed Forces. The company said the Oslo event was intended to support industrial cooperation connected to both programmes.
A Hanwha Aerospace spokesperson said, “Through the K9 and Chunmoo programs, Hanwha has contributed to strengthening Norway’s defense capabilities, and we are now extending that relationship into long-term partnerships with Norwegian industry.”
“Building on this event, we are committed to growing our business in Norway as a model of cooperation that advances together with the local industrial base,” the spokesperson added.
The afternoon programme included one-to-one meetings between Hanwha business teams and prospective Norwegian partners. Hanwha Aerospace said these discussions were aimed at identifying strategic industrial opportunities and strengthening cooperation with local suppliers and technology firms.
The company is also participating in the INFO/ERFA Forum organised by the Norwegian Defence and Security Industries Association on May 12 and 13. Hanwha representatives are expected to meet Norwegian military, government and industry officials during the event.
